Ballers playing like bloggers

The season is only weeks old, but some of our favourite players have jumped out of the blocks surprisingly slow and just aren't performing like themselves yet.

In Townsville, super sweet shooting John Rillie has been playing more like a blogger than a baller in their first four games.

One reason for this transformation may be the fact that he now is a blogger.

(Check John out at http://jronfire.blogspot.com - be sure to listen to his weekly podcast)

Over the past few months JR has been blogging his ass off and has been doing a fantastic job sharing basketball news and offering us an insight into his world, but unfortunately he's now been nerding up the net more then swishing it.

Rillie is one of the greatest and deadliest shooters to ever grace the NBL, the guy has a world class stroke.

(Watch him do the 'Peja Stojokovic')

However, since getting his 'nerd on' he's averaging 5.5 points at an alarming 23% shooting after four games with a high-score of 10 against the Perth Wildcats.

Blogging baller Rod Benson once pondered if blogging while playing could in some ways be damaging for his career.

Although Rod was talking about his employment chances, is it possible that too much blogging could have an effect on performance?

For years Rillie has been a marvel to watch with the turnarounds and daggers and he'll get cooking soon, he's too gifted not to…but what if he really has turned into a nerdlinger!

This is a guy that can fall into the zone in the blink-of-an-eye and explode for 40 and even though he's due for a breakout; it would be interesting to see what would happen if John shut the laptop for just one week and got back to being the baller not the blogger.

Despite Rillie's slow start the Crocs are riding a three-game winning streak after nice wins over the Dragons, Taipans and Wildcats, so the rest of league could be in trouble when JR gets his groove back.

Meanwhile, in Wollongong does Kavossy Franklin have a blog we don't know about?

'Scoot', who is an absolute beast of a balla (yeah balla with an 'a') is registering just 10.2 ppg on 36% shooting through four games.

Franklin was the Hawks most consistent player last year carrying the load as a lone import for much of the season with career highs in points and assists.

He's still dishing out 5.5 assists this year with help coming from the addition of Glen Saville and Dusty Rychart, but hasn't quite found where his own shots are going to come from yet.

Finally, Sam Mackinnon, who is two years removed as the league MVP appears to be cruising at his new job.

After four games he's rebounding and distributing decently, while only being required to add 7.3 points per contest on their absurdly loaded roster.
